Softball Recap: Gatewood Now 6-1 over Last Seven Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Athens Christian, Gatewood was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They walked away with an 8-3 victory over the Edmund Burke Academy Spartans. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-1 two weeks ago.

Riley Roberts made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Gatewood let Lily Arthur and Ellie McMillian run wild. Arthur went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base, while McMillian went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Alexis Thrift, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Gatewood has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Edmund Burke Academy, they now have a losing record of 9-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gatewood will host Johnson County at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Edmund Burke Academy, they will be playing at home against Screven County at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
