Softball Recap: Lyons Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

It was a proper cat-fight when Lyons challenged Sterling on Tuesday. The Lions were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Tigers. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by eight runs or more this season.

Gretta Wynja made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in September.

In other batting news, Dahlia Oviatt was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three doubles. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Leora Hagan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Lyons hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive contests.

Lyons' win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Sterling, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-11.

Lyons wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 12-0 win against Valley on the 9th. As for Sterling, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 12-2 victory against Platte Valley on the 9th.
