Basketball Game Preview: St. Bonaventure Seraphs vs. Newbury Park Panthers

The St. Bonaventure Seraphs just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Newbury Park Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Newbury Park is hoping to do what Thacher couldn't on Thursday: put an end to St. Bonaventure's winning streak, which now stands at three games. St. Bonaventure claimed a resounding 78-22 victory over Thacher.

St. Bonaventure's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sarah Cosio led the charge by going 9 of 15 on her way to 21 points in addition to eight assists and six steals. Cosio has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 18 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Rico, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine boards.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Newbury Park). They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat Simi Valley 70-35. With the Panthers ahead 39-15 at the half, the game was all but over already.

The win was the fourth in a row for Newbury Park, bringing their record for this year to 6-3. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.3 points per game. As for St. Bonaventure, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
