Football Recap: Elk River Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Monticello

Elk River faced Monticello in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Elks took a 22-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Magic. The matchup marked the Elks' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Several Elks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Carsyn Kleffman, who picked up 83 receiving yards and one score. An impressive showing, but Kleffman really ramped things up playing D: he picked up two sacks and made four total tackles.

Elk River's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-2. As for Monticello, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elk River will face off against Cretin-Derham Hall at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Monticello, they will challenge Bemidji at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
