Football Recap: Weslaco East Takes a Loss

If Weslaco East was feeling good fresh off their 64-20 takedown of Donna North last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats were outmatched by the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North Raiders and fell 34-7. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 802nd, while the Raiders are ranked 286th).

Aiden Gonzalez threw for 30 yards on four of 16 attempts. On the ground, Elias Rodriguez rushed for 57 yards and one TD.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Daren Garcia, who threw for 183 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Alvarado, who gained 144 total yards and a touchdown.

Weslaco East's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North, the win keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.

Coming up, Weslaco East will square off against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' defense has only allowed 13 points per game this season, so the Wildcats' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North, they will challenge Flour Bluff at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders will need to watch out since the Hornets have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
