Baseball Recap: Berkshire Triumphs

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Berkshire had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Norwayne Bobcats by a score of 6-3.

Sam Barcikoski made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Berkshire is 6-3 when Barcikoski allows two or fewer earned runs, but 7-10 otherwise. Barcikoski was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Oliver Miller, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. He has become a key player for Berkshire: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 9-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Patrick Brancel, who earned two runs and one stolen base.

The win got Berkshire back to even at 13-13. As for Norwayne, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-17 record this season.

As of now, neither Berkshire nor Norwayne have any future games scheduled.
