Baseball Recap: Victory Baptist Takes Down Hearts Academy in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Victory Baptist rose to the challenge on Friday. Everything went their way against the Hearts Academy Panthers as they made off with an 18-6 win. The Warrior's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Eli McHugh was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, DJ Jones and Asher Alexander did most of the damage at the plate: Jones went 3-for-4 with six RBI, four runs, and one triple, while Alexander went 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those four runs gave Jones a new career-high. Dominick Smith was another key player, going 1-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Victory Baptist was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hearts Academy only posted a batting average of .273.

Victory Baptist is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Hearts Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-5.

As of now, neither Victory Baptist nor the Panthers have any future games scheduled.
