Football Game Preview: Bluestem Lions vs. Humboldt Cubs

Bluestem is 0-4 against Humboldt since September of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Lions will be playing at home against the Cubs at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Bluestem is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 40 points last Friday, they were much more limited against Eureka on Friday. They took a hard 30-12 fall against the Tornadoes. The Lions were down 30-6 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Although Bluestem took the loss, they still got scores from Axton Vice and Ayson Shepherd.

Meanwhile, Humboldt played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Prairie View, falling 56-14. The Cubs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-0.

Bluestem will have to contain Mason Sterling as he made an impact in Humboldt's last game. He rushed for 135 yards and two scores.

Bluestem's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Humboldt, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Bluestem has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 235.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Humboldt struggles in that department as they've been averaging 178 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
