Basketball Recap: Westlake Charter Falls Short of Argonaut in the Playoffs

Westlake Charter and Argonaut squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Westlake Charter had to settle for second. They lost 63-41 to the Argonaut Mustangs. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Explorers, who until this game were averaging 23.76 points allowed.

Despite the loss, Westlake Charter still got an impressive performance from Chigozie Igwegbe, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine boards. What's more, Igwegbe posted two blocks, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Anthonia Nwaukoni was another key player, putting up seven points and seven rebounds.

Argonaut got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Brynn Begovich out in front who shot 6-for-9 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double with 19 points and 11 assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Alayna Critchfield, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 15 boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Westlake Charter and nudges their season record down to 12-9. As for Argonaut, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-11 record this season.

Westlake Charter does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Argonaut, they have already played their next matchup, a 56-44 win against Ripon Christian on the 20th.
