Baseball Recap: Holton Has No Trouble Against Hesperia

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Holton and Hesperia meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Red Devils were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Panthers. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 17-6 victory back in April.

Fisher Mirkle was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Holton: the team is 6-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-13-1 otherwise.

In other batting news, Luke Urso was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted over his last ten contests. Lane Frees was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Holton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Holton's record is now 12-15-1. As for Hesperia, their loss dropped their record down to 5-19.

As of now, neither Holton nor the Panthers have any future games scheduled.
