Basketball Recap: Mater Dei Catholic Piles Up the Points Against Bonita Vista

There's no place like home for Mater Dei Catholic, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They blew past the Bonita Vista Barons 67-40 on Tuesday. The Crusaders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 21 points or more this season.

Promise Martin was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with ten points and 11 rebounds. She also grabbed five steals, which is notable because Mater Dei Catholic is 8-3 when she posts at least five steals, but 7-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Melissa Ruiz, who posted 13 points.

Mater Dei Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in 13 consecutive contests.

Several Barons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaidyn Lee, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards. That's the most points Lee has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Shea Gonzalez, who put up 13 points.

Mater Dei Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 15-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points over those games. As for Bonita Vista, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-20.

Looking ahead, Mater Dei Catholic will be playing in front of their home fans against Montgomery at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Montgomery is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.2 points per game this season. Bonita Vista does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
