The Twelve Bridges Raging Rhinos are taking a road trip to challenge the Nevada Union Miners at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Nevada Union took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Twelve Bridges, who comes in off a win.
Last Thursday, Twelve Bridges strolled past Yuba City with points to spare, taking the game 45-29. Given the Raging Rhinos' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 424th, while the Honkers are ranked 987th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Twelve Bridges' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mia DeMatteis led the charge by putting up 12 points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Addison Carpenter, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards.
Twelve Bridges smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 21 consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Nevada Union lost to Placer on the road by a 56-38 margin on Thursday.
Twelve Bridges will need focus on slowing down Sydney Tesene, one of several Nevada Union players who made an impact when they last played. She posted seven points and six rebounds. Elle Conway was another key player, scoring ten points.
Nevada Union has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. As for Twelve Bridges, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Twelve Bridges has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 35.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Nevada Union struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Twelve Bridges beat Nevada Union 56-44 in their previous meeting back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Twelve Bridges since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
