Baseball Recap: West Hall Takes a Loss

West Hall dropped their record down to 9-16 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Cherokee Bluff Bears, falling 11-1. The Spartans were not able to make up for their loss to the Bears from their previous meeting back in March of 2022.

West Hall saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Santiago Lopez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

As for Cherokee Bluff, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games.

On Cherokee Bluff's side, Gabe Gowder tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Gowder is becoming a predictor of the Bears' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 7-1 (and 8-9 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Ethan England and Bryce Fontenot did most of the damage at the plate: England fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3, while Fontenot fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Fontenot also scored two runs, which is notable because Cherokee Bluff is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 8-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kaden Thompson, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Cherokee Bluff beat West Hall by a score of 6-2 on Friday.
