Basketball Recap: Costa Mesa's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

If Garden Grove wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Costa Mesa, they should've done a better job of containing Emi Kamikihara. The Costa Mesa Mustangs came out on top against the Garden Grove Argonauts by a score of 40-28 on Tuesday thanks in part to Kamikihara, who posted 18 points and five steals. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 17 times she's played.

The team also got some help courtesy of Desire Hernandez, who earned two points. What's more, she also racked up two steals, the most she's had since back in November of 2024.

Costa Mesa moved to 7-11 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Garden Grove, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Costa Mesa will challenge Ocean View at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Garden Grove, they will square off against Laguna Hills at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Laguna Hills will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Garden Grove surely won't give up without a fight.
