Recap: Azusa Aztecs vs. Don Lugo Conquistadores
The Azusa Aztecs have been a dominant force so far but will be looking to break out of a two-game mini slump. They suffered a tough 44-24 defeat at the hands of Don Lugo on Thursday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Azusa in their matchups with Don Lugo: they've now lost three in a row.
Azusa's loss came despite strong showings from Tanisha Rentereia and Lilliana Maldonado. Rentereia dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Maldonado scored 7 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Rentereia is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games she's played.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Don Lugo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Makena Encarnacion, who scored 11 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Issabela Medina, who scored 6 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals.
Azusa's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Don Lugo, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Azusa won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Mayfield at 5:00 p.m. on December 8th. Hopefully Mayfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Wednesday. As for Don Lugo, they will be playing at home against Montclair at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
