Baseball Game Preview: Piedmont Academy Cougars vs. Trinity Christian Crusaders

The Piedmont Academy Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Trinity Christian Crusaders at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Piedmont Academy is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

Piedmont Academy proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 13) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Gatewood 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted since May 4, 2024.

Nick Gervasio tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Zach Simmons was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Statham, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, Trinity Christian made sure to put some runs up on the board against Windsor Academy on Tuesday. Everything went Trinity Christian's way against Windsor Academy as Trinity Christian made off with a 17-3 win. The Crusaders haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Piedmont Academy pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Trinity Christian, their record now sits at 5-2.

Piedmont Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Trinity Christian in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, winning 7-2. Does Piedmont Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Trinity Christian turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
