Basketball Recap: Victory Christian Academy Comes Up Short

After flying high against Bonita Vista on Friday, Victory Christian Academy came back down to earth. The Victory Christian Academy Knights took a 55-37 bruising from the Ventura Cougars on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while the Cougars are ranked tenth).

Despite the loss, Victory Christian Academy still got an impressive performance from Mai'Ana Norita, who posted 14 points and five steals. Norita is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed five or more in the last three games she's played.

Ventura's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brinley Anderson led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and 14 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Rea, who went 5 for 8 en route to 13 points and five rebounds.

Victory Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Ventura, the victory was the 19th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-2.

Victory Christian Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-47 loss against Camarillo on the 20th. As for Ventura, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 73-34 win against Dos Pueblos on the 21st.
