Preview: Canyon Crest Academy Ravens vs. Chula Vista Spartans
The Canyon Crest Academy Ravens will be playing in front of their home fans against the Chula Vista Spartans at 9:00 a.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Canyon Crest Academy can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Vista 53-51. The victory was just what Canyon Crest Academy needed coming off of a 58-26 loss in their prior match.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Canyon Crest Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Caroline Dysart, who scored 16 points. Sofia Colon was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Meanwhile, Chula Vista put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They really took it to San Ysidro for the full four quarters, racking up a 54-16 victory on the road. The win was just what Chula Vista needed coming off of a 61-23 loss in their prior match.
Chula Vista found their leader in underclassman Malissa Mckoy, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Mckoy has scored at least a third of Chula Vista's points. Another player making a difference was Ta'mya Lewis, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
Canyon Crest Academy's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-7. As for Chula Vista, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-10 record this season.
Canyon Crest Academy beat Chula Vista 45-38 in their previous matchup back in December of 2015. Does Canyon Crest Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Chula Vista turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
