The third road contest was the charm for Golden Valley, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They walked away with a 40-29 win over the McFarland Cougars on Friday. The Bulldogs' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Raymond Valderrama was his usual excellent self, rushing for 121 yards and one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Golden Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 365 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 182 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Despite the loss, McFarland still got an impressive performance from Malachi Davis, who threw for 328 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 82.8% of his passes, and also rushed for 62 yards and two touchdowns. Julian Barajas was Davis' top target, picking up 114 receiving yards and one score.

Golden Valley's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for McFarland, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After each having a week off, Golden Valley and Del Oro will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on October 2. This will be the Bulldogs' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for McFarland, they will face off against Mendota at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
