For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Lamar and Fowler meet (seven straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Saturday. The Thunder came out on top against the Grizzlies by a score of 3-1. The Thunder haven't had any issues with the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 27-25, 21-25, 25-15.
Mireya Gomez paced Lamar's offense, picking up 12 kills. Gomez got some help from Abygail Gonzales and her 29 assists. Finally, Lisette Frias kept Lamar's defense grounded, leading the team with five blocks.
Fowler's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Izzy Pharr, who had 11 digs and two aces.
Lamar's victory bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Fowler, their defeat ended a six-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-5.
Coming up, Lamar will head out to take on La Junta at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Fowler, they will take on Rye at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
