The Narragansett Mariners will square off against the Toll Gate Titans at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Narragansett's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Toll Gate's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Narragansett is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: North Providence, who was ranked eighth at the time (Narragansett was ranked 14th). The Mariners fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 7-5 on Friday. The Mariners' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Zayden Kent put in work no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
Kent wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jackson DiFilippo, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Toll Gate came into Saturday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on Prout with a sharp 13-5 win on Saturday.
Like Narragansett, Toll Gate also got a great game from a two-way player: Edward Rosario. Throwing, Rosario struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Meanwhile, Braeden Geer tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Toll Gate is 2-0-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-12 otherwise. At the plate, Rosario went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Geer got on base in five of his six plate appearances with three stolen bases and five runs. Those three stolen bases gave Geer a new career-high.
In other batting news, Brady Fales was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brady Slinn, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Toll Gate always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Prout only posted an OBP of .312.
Toll Gate's victory bumped their record up to 6-12-1. As for Narragansett, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.
