Football Recap: Hayfield Takes a Loss

Hayfield scored the most points they've had this season on Saturday, but it wasn't enough. They took a blow against the St. Michael the Archangel Warriors, falling 62-21. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 190th, while the Warriors are ranked 43rd).

St. Michael the Archangel was led to victory by Aiden Fulton and Marcus Ferguson. Fulton threw for 322 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 11.9 yards per attempt, while Ferguson rushed for 106 yards and a pair of TDs on only 11 carries. Ferguson also put up two rushing touchdowns, which were his first of the season. Cj Loveless was in the mix as well, providing St. Michael the Archangel with two scores.

This is the second loss in a row for Hayfield and nudges their season record down to 1-5. As for St. Michael the Archangel, the win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 3-4.

Looking ahead, Hayfield will host Annandale at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Michael the Archangel, they will venture away from home to take on Woodberry Forest at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight.
