Baseball Recap: Nute Triumphs

Nute came out on top against Concord Christian on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Rams narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Kingsmen 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rams have posted against the Kingsmen since May 1, 2024.

Brody Leeman and Cooper Janis made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Leeman pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Janis pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. Leeman also tossed a walk, which is notable because Nute is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-6 otherwise. At bat, Leeman went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Janis went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Janis has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brandon Bilodeau, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave him a new career-high.

Nute kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win made it two in a row for Nute and bumps their season record up to 6-7. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Concord Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-5.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Nute is set to square off against their familiar foe Epping at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Concord Christian will take on rival Mascenic Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
