Basketball Recap: Tuesday's Loss Ends Prospect's Winning Streak

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Prospect can now relate to. They lost to the Marysville Indians on the road by a 55-40 margin on Tuesday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Panthers came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Indians are ranked 231st).

Leading Marysville to victory were Demi Boykin and Abigail Pietz. Boykin dropped a triple-double with 19 points, ten boards, and ten steals, while Pietz posted 15 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. Boykin is becoming a predictor of Marysville's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 22-5 (and 2-3 when she doesn't). Lisette Partida was another key player, putting up six points and eight rebounds.

The defeat snapped Prospect's winning streak at eight games and leaves them with a 22-7 record. As for Marysville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-8 record this season.

Prospect does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Marysville, they will challenge Rio Linda at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rio Linda is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.4 points per game this season.
