Basketball Recap: Pioneer Skates Past Oxford Academy with Ease

Oxford Academy typically has all the answers at home, but on Monday Pioneer proved too difficult a challenge. They blew past the Oxford Academy Patriots 65-23. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Titans had established a 33 point advantage.

Leading Pioneer to victory were Alissa Belen and Aryanna Reyes. Belen went 9 of 15 en route to 23 points, while Reyes went 5 for 10 on her way to 12 points along with six assists and six steals. Reyes is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. Another player making a difference was Riley Almendarez, who posted eight points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Pioneer was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oxford Academy only posted five assists.

The victory (which was Pioneer's third in a row) raised their record to 8-8. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Oxford Academy, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-6.

Pioneer didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-45 loss against Whitney on the 15th. Oxford Academy has also already played their next matchup, a 67-39 defeat against Cerritos on the 15th.
