Volleyball Recap: Elgin Comes Up Short

If Elgin was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Thorndale last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats came up short against the Akins Eagles on Friday, falling 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Wildcats have suffered since August 12th.

Bella Navejas paced Elgin's offense, picking up nine kills. Navejas got some help from Kaitlyn Rodriquez and her 14 assists. Rodriquez was also solid from the service line: she led the team with six aces.

Elgin has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season. As for Akins, they moved to 8-16 with that win, which also ended their seven-game losing streak.

Elgin and Akins could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Wildcats will take on Hendrickson at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (1094 vs. 468). Meanwhile, Akins (ranked 919th) will meet Westlake (ranked 78th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
