Baseball Game Preview: Union County Panthers vs. Lumpkin County Indians

Union County is 1-9 against Lumpkin County since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Union County Panthers will welcome the Lumpkin County Indians at 5:55 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Union County took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They came out on top against Towns County by a score of 7-3.

Colten Gibson and Gunnar Akins made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Gibson tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Akins pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave him a new career-low. At bat, Gibson scored a run while going 1-for-2, while Akins went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. Gibson also put up a hit, which was his first of the season.

Lumpkin County's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.8 runs across that stretch. As for Union County, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.
