Baseball Game Preview: Pike Red Devils vs. Avon Orioles

The Pike Red Devils will face off against the Avon Orioles at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Pike is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.

Pike saw some tournament action on Saturday. They came out on top against Irvington Preparatory Academy by a score of 8-5.

The team relied heavily on Brandon Williams, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Barrett Hanscom also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Avon sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over New Palestine on Tuesday.

Preston Miller looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. He has become a key player for Avon: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 12-14-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Avon's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Andrew McIntyre, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Pike's record is now 10-12-1. As for Avon, their record now sits at 14-15-1.

Pike might still be hurting after the 22-4 loss they got from Avon in their previous meeting back in May of 2021. Can the Red Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
