Recap: Loyalton Grizzlies vs. Virginia City Muckers
The Loyalton Grizzlies entered their tilt with the Virginia City Muckers with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Loyalton took down Virginia City 36-18 on Wednesday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Loyalton's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 720th in California, while Virginia City is ranked 94th in Nevada).
Loyalton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Catherine Petterson, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Petterson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Sophie Holland was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with nine rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Virginia City had strong showings from Matley Kelley, who scored five points along with 15 rebounds, and Tesla Turley, who scored three points. Turley set a new season high mark in steals with two.
Loyalton's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Virginia City, they are on a 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-13.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Loyalton will take on Herlong at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Virginia City won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Sierra Sage Academy/Right Of Passage at 4:00 p.m. on January 4th. Sierra Sage Academy/Right Of Passage comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
