Basketball Recap: Highland Comes Up Short

Highland played a tough matchup on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 57-30 loss at the hands of the Higley Knights. The Hawks were down 42-20 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Highland's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Peyton Jacobsen, who posted seven points, and Emilee Searle, who had seven points and seven rebounds.

Higley was led to victory by Sophia Moreira and Cadence Murdough. Moreira went 5 for 11 en route to 12 points and seven boards, while Murdough almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave Moreira a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Kaelin Holloway, who put up seven points and seven rebounds.

Highland has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season. As for Higley, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-6.

Highland will head out on the road to face off against Tucson High Magnet School at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Higley, they will host Desert Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Higley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.7 points per game this season.
