Volleyball Game Preview: Foard Tigers vs. Ashe County Huskies

The Foard Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Ashe County Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Foard will be strutting in after a win while Ashe County will be coming in after a defeat.

Foard is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They put the hurt on East Burke with a sharp 3-0 victory.

Foard not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept East Burke between 16 and 17 points across their sets. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-17, 25-16.

Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Ashe County's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of North Wilkes by a score of 3-2. Huskies fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Vikings since Wednesday.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Ashe County sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The final score came out to 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 23-25, 16-14.

Foard will need to focus on slowing down Jose Cheek, one of several Ashe County players who made an impact when they last played. She had 14 digs and two aces. Cheek has been hot, having posted two or more aces the last seven times she's played. Gracie Finley was another key player, getting 28 digs, 16 kills, and one block.

Ashe County's loss dropped their record down to 24-8. As for Foard, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-10 record this season.
