Baseball Recap: Elyria Drops Season-High Score on Normandy

Elyria extended their losing streak to 11 on Friday, dropping them down to 4-18. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 16-15 heartbreaker at the hands of the Normandy Invaders. On the bright side, the 15- run effort marked the Pioneers' highest-scoring contest to date.

As for Normandy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since May 16, 2025.

For Normandy's part, Cullen Rooney made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Rooney posted two strikeouts, the most he's had over his last three games. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nick Hinkle, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Normandy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Evan Lucas, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elyria will challenge Oberlin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Phoenix have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.29 runs per game on average), something the Pioneers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Normandy, they will face off against Olmsted Falls at 5:15 p.m. on Monday.
