Football Recap: American Fork Falls Short of Skyridge in the Playoffs

American Fork and Skyridge squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but American Fork had to settle for second. They were dealt a 56-29 defeat at the hands of the Falcons. The Cavemen have struggled against the Falcons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

American Fork's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Nate Childs, who threw for 393 yards and one touchdown, and Dyson Richards, who picked up 145 receiving yards and one score. Richards showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 65 yards. Christian Hanshaw also helped out with an impressive 81 receiving yards.

It was another big night for Kaneal Sweetwyne, who threw for 403 yards and four TDs while completing 83.3% of his passes, and also rushed for 160 yards and one touchdown on only 15 carries for Skyridge. That's the most passing touchdowns Sweetwyne has posted since back in September. Skyridge's leading receiver Talmage Oswald was Sweetwyne's top target yet again, picking up 204 receiving yards and three scores.

American Fork's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Skyridge, they pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home.

American Fork does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Skyridge, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 13-7 loss against Lone Peak on the 14th.
