Baseball Recap: Cass Colonels vs. Athens Academy Spartans
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Calhoun, Cass was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Athens Academy Spartans.
Cass got a great performance from Jacob Johnson as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Devan Hutchinson relieved him and did a solid job, pitching two innings while giving up no earned run off one hit (he also only allowed one walk).
On the hitting side, Cass' win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cayden Roberts, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Cass has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. As for Athens Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 10-8.
Cass will head out on the road to take on Oconee County at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cass is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road. As for Athens Academy, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Alcovy at 6:00 p.m.
