Basketball Recap: Del Norte Comes Up Short

Del Norte lost to Westview back in February of 2025 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Nighthawks were outmatched by the Wolverines and fell 69-41. The Nighthawks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-18.

Despite the defeat, Del Norte saw an underclassman step up: freshman Aria Phung posted 17 points and four steals. The Nighthawks are 2-1 when Phung posts 15 or more points, but 7-11 otherwise. Emerson Cole was another key player, putting up seven points and six boards.

Westview had a senior duo take command as Sarah Heyn shot 62% from the field on her way to 25 points in addition to six assists and six rebounds and Mia Jacobson went 10-for-12 en route to 22 points and eight boards. Jacobson also set a new season-high mark in shooting accuracy with 83%. Divya Muralikrishna also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Del Norte has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season. As for Westview, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-6.

Del Norte has already played their next contest, a 54-34 loss against Rancho Bernardo on the 28th. As for Westview, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 68-53 defeat against Fairmont Prep on the 24th.
