Basketball Recap: Marysville Indians vs. Colfax Falcons

The Marysville Indians waltzed into their game on Wednesday with six straight wins but they left with seven. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 38-37 victory over Colfax. For Marysville, this counts as revenge for the 54-41 defeat the Falcons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.
Leading Marysville to victory were Krystal Briggs and Abigail Pietz. Briggs scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Pietz almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine steals. Pietz is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Demi Boykin was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds.
Several Falcons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jade Biittner, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Biittner is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Madalyn Sigrist, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Marysville pushed their record up to 17-4 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.6 points per game. As for Colfax, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 22-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marysville will challenge the Raging Rhinos at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Twelve Bridges will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 717th, while the Indians are ranked 168th). As for Colfax, they will head out on the road to challenge the Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Center is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
