Soccer Recap: Montgomery Comes Up Short

Montgomery lost to Cardinal Newman back in February of 2025 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Vikings lost 5-2 to the Cardinals. While losing is never fun, Montgomery can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 207th, while Cardinal Newman are ranked 60th).

This is the second loss in a row for Montgomery and nudges their season record down to 7-5-3. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-2 Windsor (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 81.8% over those games). As for Cardinal Newman, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-0-4 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Montgomery is set to challenge their familiar foe Ukiah at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Cardinal Newman will face off against rival Windsor at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
