Basketball Recap: Pleasant Valley's Run of Ten Straight Victories Now Over

After a string of ten wins, Pleasant Valley's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 51-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chico Panthers. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 69-28.

Pleasant Valley's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aj Gambol, who went 9 of 21 en route to 18 points and four blocks. Gambol's evening made it eight games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kabrey Cooper, who posted nine points and seven rebounds.

Leading Chico to victory were Josie Carlos and Ellie Harrison. Carlos had 25 points and four steals, while Harrison went 5 for 11 on her way to 15 points and three steals. Carlos has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Corrina Stephens, who scored eight points and ten boards.

Pleasant Valley's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 15-4. As for Chico, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-6.

Pleasant Valley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 43-42 win against La Jolla Country Day on the 20th. As for Chico, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Shasta at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Chico is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season.
