Justices went 28-0, captured Class 2 state title and notched big wins over Columbus and Wheeler.

John Marshall (Richmond, Va.) established itself as the best team in high school basketball this season with big out-of-state victories and a second consecutive Class 2 state championship. The Justices are the 2022-23 MaxPreps National Champions after finishing No. 1 in the final MaxPreps Top 25 rankings.

The Justices (28-0) built a strong resume with wins over No. 8 Columbus (Miami, Fla.) and No. 19 Wheeler (Marietta, Ga.). Additional out-of-state victories over Grayson (Loganville, Ga.), Greensboro Day (Greensboro, N.C.), Jackson-Reed (Washington, D.C.), DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.), Holly Springs (N.C.), and Millbrook (Raleigh, N.C.) bolster their claim as the top team in the country.

The Richmond powerhouse also dominated in-state action, defeating opponents by an average of 65.5 points in six postseason contests and averaging 107 points per game during that span.

For the entirety of its 28-game run, John Marshall outscored opponents by an average margin of 36.8 points per contest and averaged 85.6 points per game.

Closing the season on a tear, John Marshall dispatched Strasburg 98-27 in the quarterfinals, knocked off Brunswick (Lawrenceville) 112-49 in the semifinals and handled Radford 91-34 in the title game.

After leading his program to its fifth state title since 2015, Ty White was named the 2022-23 MaxPreps National Coach of the Year.

In his 13th season as head coach at John Marshall, White led the Justices to their first MaxPreps Top 25 finish in school history after and finished the year on a 37-game win streak.

North Carolina State signee Dennis Parker Jr. (19.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.4 steals per game) led a balanced attack with four players averaging 14.2 points per game or or more. Unsigned senior Jason Rivera-Torres (15.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.6 steals, 3.4 assists), junior Damon Thompson Jr. (14.5 points, 3.6 assists), freshman phenom Latrell Allmond (14.2 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.6 blocks) and junior Dominique Bailey (9.0 points, 4.6 assists, 3.8 steals, 3.4 rebounds) added to John Marshall's firepower.
