Baseball Recap: Kankakee Triumphs

While Kankakee's win against Peotone wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Kays skirted past the Blue Devils 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Kays have posted since May 23, 2025.

Bryce Deany made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases. Those stolen bases marked the first that he has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Jaden Villafuerte and Devin Arbour did most of the damage at the plate: Villafuerte went 1-for-3 with three runs and one double, while Arbour went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. Those three runs gave Villafuerte a new career-high.

Kankakee's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Peotone, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kankakee will welcome Crete-Monee at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.6 runs per game on average), something the Kays will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Peotone, they will be playing at home against Manteno at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Blue Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 11.5 runs per game this season.
