Basketball Recap: Academy Park Takes a Loss

Academy Park fought the good fight in their overtime game against Penn Wood on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Penn Wood Patriots by a score of 54-52. The Knights were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Patriots earlier this season, when they won 63-44.

Penn Wood's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Elisia Lawrence, who went 10 of 22 on her way to 25 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave Lawrence a new career-high in points. Taylor Morris was another key player, going 7 for 16 en route to 18 points and six boards.

With the defeat, Academy Park broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-8. As for Penn Wood, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-9.

Academy Park will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Bayard Rustin at 12:15 p.m. Bayard Rustin will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Academy Park surely won't give up without a fight. As for Penn Wood, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-29 loss against Sacred Heart Academy on the 24th.
