Baseball Recap: John Marshall's Undefeated Season over After Five Games

If John Marshall was riding high fresh off their 8-2 takedown of Huntington last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. John Marshall took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cabell Midland Knights on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Monarchs of the 13-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

John Marshall got a good showing from Kain Ankrom, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

On the hitting side, Mason Markonich and Kayden Knapp stepped up to the plate in a big way. Markonich scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Knapp went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Cain Martin was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Having lost for the first time this season, John Marshall fell to 4-1. As for Cabell Midland, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. John Marshall will face off against Morgantown at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Cabell Midland, they will take on Ripley at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Cabell Midland's pitchers better be ready for this one: Ripley has averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
