Soccer Game Preview: Great Oak vs. Murrieta Mesa

Great Oak and Murrieta Mesa are an even 4-4-2 against one another since January of 2020, but likely not for long. The Great Oak Wolfpack will square off against the Murrieta Mesa Rams at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Great Oak has four straight wins, Murrieta Mesa has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Great Oak's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They won by a goal and slipped past Temecula Valley 1-0. The Wolfpack's winning goal came courtesy of Peyton Bowser.

Meanwhile, Murrieta Mesa fell victim to Chaparral and their airtight defense on Monday. They lost 6-0 to the Pumas. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 823rd, while the Pumas are ranked 195th).

Great Oak is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those eight matches. As for Murrieta Mesa, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.

Great Oak skirted past Murrieta Mesa 1-0 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Will Great Oak repeat their success, or does Murrieta Mesa have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
