Baseball Recap: Gibault Catholic Find Success

Gibault Catholic won the last time they faced Carlyle and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Hawks walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Indians.

Gibault Catholic got a great performance from Danny Kinsey as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Kinsey has become a key player for the Hawks: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 12-13 otherwise.

At the plate, Gibault Catholic let Nolan Snell and Kole Schilling run wild. Snell got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Schilling got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Schilling is becoming a predictor of Gibault Catholic's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 9-1 (and 6-13 when he doesn't).

Gibault Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-14 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Carlyle, they are on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-19.

Coming up, Gibault Catholic will welcome Columbia at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Carlyle, they will head out to square off against Johnston City at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
