Baseball Recap: Gatewood Gators vs. Tattnall Square Academy Trojans
After flying high against Central Fellowship Christian Academy last Tuesday, Gatewood came back down to earth. The Gatewood Gators took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tattnall Square Academy Trojans on Thursday. The Gators were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.
Walker Roberts was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Roberts wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Drew Love, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Even though they lost, Gatewood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tattnall Square Academy only managed seven hits.
Gatewood's loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Tattnall Square Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season.
Gatewood and Tattnall Square Academy should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings. Gatewood will face off against Central Fellowship Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday up 348 places (93 vs. 441). Gatewood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season. Similarly, Tattnall Square Academy (ranked 27th) will meet Mount de Sales Academy (ranked 234th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
