Hoophall Classic action shakes up MaxPreps Top 25 high school girls basketball rankings

Etiwanda, Morris Catholic and Sidwell Friends all rise after wins in Springfield.

There was movement near the top of the MaxPreps Top 25 girls basketball rankings after a busy Martin Luther King Jr. weekend highlighted by action at the Spalding Hoophall Classic.

Defending national champion Etiwanda (Calif.) moved up five spots to No. 13 in this wee's MaxPreps Top 25 high school girls basketball rankings after a 75-64 win over No. 16 Incarnate Word Academy (St. Louis, Mo.) on Monday at the Hoophall Classic. 

Etiwanda's victory snapped Incarnate Word Academy's 141-game win streak that stretched over five seasons. Cal commit Aliyahna Morris led the way for the Eagles with 26 points while LSU commit Grace Knox added 13 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. Indiana commit Nevaeh Caffey led the charge for the Red Knights in the loss with a game-high 32 points.

No. 1 Ontario Christian (Ontario, Calif.) held serve in its Hoophall Classic game with an 87-75 win over storied Christ the King (Middle Village, N.Y.). Kaleena Smith had 26 points and 12 assists while freshman Tati Griffin added 26 points.



No. 2 Morris Catholic (Denville, N.J.) and No. 8 Sidwell Friends (Washington, D.C.) each climbed one spot in this week's rankings after victories over No. 9 Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.), which dropped seven spots.

The Mustangs picked up three wins last week, including an 84-38 win over Nazareth (Brooklyn, N.Y.) that came into the contest 13-1.
