Softball Recap: North Platte Takes a Loss

North Platte extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 6-3. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the West Platte Bluejays. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 4-3 to the Bluejays when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Kate Wolf was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits.

On the hitting side, North Platte saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Savannah Crook, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for West Platte, they pushed their record up to 3-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

On West Platte's side, Sophie Grier spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Maddie Cline was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. North Platte will venture away from home to square off against South Harrison at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season. As for West Platte, they are taking a road trip to challenge Bishop LeBlond at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bluejays' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
