Basketball Recap: Sacred Heart of Jesus Comes Up Short

Sacred Heart of Jesus fought the good fight in their overtime game against Mary Star of the Sea on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mary Star of the Sea Stars by a score of 51-49. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Comets have suffered since January 9th.

When it comes to explaining why Sacred Heart of Jesus lost, don't look at Genevee Hernandez. Despite the final result, she posted 21 points in addition to five boards and five steals. Those 21 points gave Hernandez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Michelle Canete, who earned eight points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Sacred Heart of Jesus has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 14 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-16 record this season. As for Mary Star of the Sea, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-11.

Sacred Heart of Jesus will venture away from home to square off against St. Bernard at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mary Star of the Sea, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Cabrillo at 5:30 p.m. Mary Star of the Sea will also cruise into their next contest with the timing on their side: Cabrillo will have lost seven straight heading into Monday's game.
