Basketball Recap: Canyon Gets the Win

If Verdugo Hills wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Canyon, they should've done a better job of containing Shannen Wilson. The Canyon Cowboys blew past the Verdugo Hills Dons, posting a 76-49 victory thanks in part to Wilson, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Darby Dunn, who went 8 for 13 on her way to 19 points in addition to seven assists and six boards. Her afternoon made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

Canyon's win bumped their record up to 11-12. As for Verdugo Hills, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-5.

Canyon and Verdugo Hills should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Canyon (ranked 250th) will meet West Ranch (ranked 768th) at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Canyon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.5 points per game this season. Similarly, Verdugo Hills will challenge North Hollywood at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday up 784 places (242 vs. 1026).
