Recap: Penn Hills Indians vs. Quaker Valley Quakers
The Penn Hills Indians waltzed into their match Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 44-31 victory over Quaker Valley. Given Penn Hills' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 236th, while Quaker Valley is ranked 531st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the defeat, Quaker Valley saw an underclassman step up: Oumou Thiero dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Thiero scored a full 61.3% of Quaker Valley's points, the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
The win got Penn Hills back to even at 3-3. As for Quaker Valley, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Penn Hills will take on Franklin Regional at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Quaker Valley will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Ambridge at 7:00 p.m. on January 3rd. Ambridge is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
